The Inter-Ministerial Facilitation Committee (IMFC) is a cross-ministerial coordination body established under the National AfCFTA Coordination Office. It brings together representatives from key government ministries to ensure coherent and effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement across all sectors of Ghana's economy.
IMFC Mandate
The IMFC facilitates inter-ministerial dialogue, aligns policy positions, and resolves cross-cutting issues that arise during AfCFTA implementation. By coordinating efforts across trade, finance, foreign affairs, and other relevant ministries, the Committee ensures Ghana speaks with one voice in AfCFTA negotiations and executes its commitments efficiently.
Role in AfCFTA Implementation
The IMFC serves as the operational bridge between the National AfCFTA Coordination Office and the various ministries whose portfolios intersect with continental trade. Its work includes:
- Harmonising ministry-level AfCFTA action plans
- Identifying and addressing regulatory or procedural bottlenecks
- Facilitating information flow between the NCO and line ministries
- Supporting Ghana's negotiating positions with technical input from relevant sectors
Governance Structure
The IMFC is one of three core governance bodies that guide Ghana's AfCFTA engagement, alongside the National Steering Committee and the Technical Working Groups.
